Heywood, Cari & Anderson, S.C. can trace its roots back to June of 1945. At that time, John D. Heywood established a sole practice above the Drug Store downtown Hudson. Mr. Heywood formed a partnership with L.P. Gherty in January of 1947 and the firm was known as Heywood & Gherty until November. Thereafter, Mr. Heywood practiced solely again until 1955 when Kenneth Hayes and William Hess joined the firm giving rise to Heywood, Hayes & Hess. Mr. Hess left the partnership in 1959, and the firm Heywood & Hayes practiced until 1974. Mr. Heywood practiced alone until Samuel R. Cari joined the firm in 1977. In 1980, Heywood & Cari took on a new partner and the firm was known as Heywood, Cari & Murray until 1989 when Ms. Murray left.

The partnership between John D. Heywood and Samuel R. Cari continued to exist until Mr. Heywood's death in 2001. Despite his passing, Mr. Heywood's name remains a part of the firm which he started over a half century ago. The firm continued under the name Heywood & Cari until associate Christopher M. Anderson made partner in 2002.

The current staff of Heywood, Cari and Anderson, S.C. consists of Attorney Samuel R. Cari, Attorney Christopher M. Anderson, Attorney Jason M. Fey, and Attorney Robert F. Wall (of counsel) and Attorney Ryan C. Cari. Together, with the support of Michelle M. Erdman, Cheryl A. Warnken, Michelle L. Schulte, Deanna L. Carter, and Tania L. Larson, the firm continues to serve Western Wisconsin and the East Metropolitan area in furtherance of the dedication to legal excellence that John D. Heywood started in 1945.
